Behaviour and Communication
Behavioural issues in animals can arise from numerous factors, but a primary cause is often the disconnect and misunderstanding between pets and their caretakers. Effectively expressing these concerns can lead to remarkable improvements, sometimes within just a single session!
It's essential to understand that animals cannot be compelled to engage in actions they are unwilling to undertake. My role is to provide insight, support, and clarity to facilitate better relations between pets and their humans. Animals act in accordance with their perspective, shaped by their past experiences, education, genetics, and backgrounds. Frequently, the issue might not stem purely from the animal itself; it could also be linked to the humans, family dynamics, or the presence of other pets in the environment.
While I serve as a conduit for communication, it's essential to recognise that I cannot control an animal's thoughts, alter their inherent personality, or guarantee a solution, especially if the animal doesn't perceive a reason to adapt or change their behaviour. If you expect an animal to modify its behaviour, it's crucial that you're also prepared to make personal adjustments.
In a household with multiple pets, it's common for specific behaviours to arise. Tackling these issues can be challenging, but it generally proves to be effective, albeit inducing some behavioural changes (typically beneficial). I strive to convey the perspectives of the animals involved and collaborate on possible solutions, often requiring compromises from both sides.
This is where a qualified behaviourist, such as myself, may be necessary to guide pet owners by clarifying certain behaviours and suggesting modifications to enhance the living situation for both animals and humans alike. I am proud to be a certified behaviourist for both cats and dogs, ready to assist in these needs should they arise.
